Anthony Davis
Anthony Davis posts 25/6/2/2/2 line vs. Jazz
Mon, Oct 13, 2025, 5:49 PM
Anthony Davis added 25 points (8-of-14 FGs, 7-of-7 FTs), six rebounds, two assists, two steals, two blocks and two three-pointers on Monday against the Jazz.
Analysis: Davis had a well-rounded performance on Monday in his third preseason game as a Maverick. He recorded preseason-highs in minutes and points while finishing as the game's leading scorer. Offensively, the veteran forward showcased his versatility by converting efficiently both inside and outside the arc throughout the contest. At the same time, his pair of blocks and steals are precisely what have helped make him a high-ceiling fantasy basketball option throughout his career. Davis should be in line for a stellar fantasy season.
Naji Marshall
Naji Marshall scores 17 points off bench vs. Utah
Mon, Oct 13, 2025, 5:41 PM
Naji Marshall recorded 17 points (4-of-7 FGs, 8-of-10 FTs), two rebounds, one assist, one block and one three-pointer against the Jazz on Monday.
Analysis: On the heels of a 13-point outing against the Hornets, Marshall was one of the most productive members of the Mavericks' bench against the Jazz on Monday. He scored efficiently and needed just seven shot attempts to nearly reach 20 points and finish as Dallas' second-best scorer. Marshall is coming off a career-best season as a scorer, although he shot poorly from beyond the arc last season. If he can find his touch from deep, he has a chance to enjoy another productive season in his second campaign with Dallas.
P.J. Washington
P.J. Washington to enter starting lineup vs. Jazz
Mon, Oct 13, 2025, 2:05 PM
Marc Stein
P.J. Washington, Cooper Flagg, Klay Thompson, Dereck Lively II and Anthony Davis will start Monday against the Jazz.
Analysis: With D'Angelo Russell out against the Jazz, Washington gets the spot start in the Mavericks' third preseason game alongside Flagg, Davis, Lively II and Klay Thompson. The super-sized starting unit could allow Flagg, the 2025 first-overall pick, to get reps as the team's point guard. He's scored in double figures in each of the first two preseason games and displayed rebounding and playmaking abilities in his minutes.
Dante Exum
Danté Exum dealing with right knee soreness
Sun, Oct 12, 2025, 4:23 AM
Mike Curtis
Danté Exum will be sidelined for an undetermined amount of time with a sore right knee.
Analysis: Exum, who agreed to a one-year deal in July that did not become official until late August, has not participated in training camp or either of Dallas' two preseason games with a sore right knee. Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd said Saturday that the team was cautiously approaching the guard's recovery but did not offer a timeline for his return. With Kyrie Irving (knee) also out, there may be room in the rotation for Brandon Williams once he returns from his hamstring injury. That isn't enough to make Williams a draftable option in most leagues, but Dallas' current point guard depth chart enhances D'Angelo Russell's early-season value.
Dalano Banton
Dalano Banton finds new home with Mavericks
Tue, Oct 7, 2025, 7:13 AM
Mavs PR
Dalano Banton has signed with the Dallas Mavericks, according to the team's PR account on X.
Analysis: Banton has spent time with the Raptors, Celtics and most recently the Trail Blazers. It's unclear what kind of deal he's signed with the Mavericks, but Banton will likely be competing for a spot on Dallas' final roster. He provided a spark for the Blazers last season, averaging 16 points, 3.7 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 1.7 triples across the final seven games of the 2024-25 campaign.
D'Angelo Russell
D'Angelo Russell logs five assists in 15 minutes
Mon, Oct 6, 2025, 5:25 PM
D'Angelo Russell added five points (1-of??"2 FGs, 2-of-2 FTs), two rebounds, five assists and one three-pointer in Monday's win over the Thunder.
Analysis: Russell surveyed the court well in his limited reps on Monday evening. He recorded a team-high in assists and chipped in a basket from beyond the arc along the way. Russell's continuity with Anthony Davis, his former teammate with the Lakers, is expected to play a key role in the Mavericks' start to the season. His shooting and playmaking will also be pivotal while the Mavericks remain without an expected return date for their superstar guard, Kyrie Irving (knee).
P.J. Washington
PJ Washington scores 14 points Monday vs. Thunder
Mon, Oct 6, 2025, 5:19 PM
PJ Washington finished with 14 points (4-of-9 FGs, 6-of-7 FGs), three rebounds, one assist and one block in 14 minutes vs. the Thunder on Monday.
Analysis: After serving as a full-time starter over his first two seasons with the Mavericks, Washington came off the bench in Dallas' preseason opener. The veteran forward was productive in his new role, finishing as one of the team's scoring leaders against the Thunder, despite logging limited minutes. Washington will likely remain as a reserve frontcourt player to begin the regular season, as he backs up Cooper Flagg. Still, he should play valuable minutes and could function as one of the more reliable second-unit players in the league.
Kyrie Irving
Kyrie Irving (knee) still lacks return timeline
Sun, Oct 5, 2025, 6:48 AM
Kyrie Irving
Kyrie Irving (knee) said during a recent livestream that he does not have a timeline to return to game action.
Analysis: Irving tore the ACL in his left knee in March, with his absence prompting the Mavericks to sign D'Angelo Russell in free agency and re-sign Dante Exum. However, general manager Nico Harrison's comments in July that Irving was “ahead of schedule” in his recovery sparked optimism that the point guard could return sooner than expected. Irving clarified in his recent livestream that he has no timeline for a return to action. “There's no timetable for when I'm coming back, so please don't ask me when I'm coming back,” Irving said. “Please don't badger me with all the questions like, ‘Hey, if you're healthy by November, what do you think about it?' Please don't badger me with any questions, guys. I'm going to be ready when I'm ready.” Russell is expected to assume the starting point guard duties in Irving's absence, raising his fantasy ceiling. Someone else to track during the preseason is undrafted rookie Ryan Nembhard, who has received positive reviews in training camp.
Brandon Williams
Brandon Williams (hamstring) out one week
Wed, Oct 1, 2025, 6:40 PM
Dallas Morning News
Brandon Williams (hamstring) will be re-evaluated in one week.
Analysis: Williams is one of the Mavericks already dealing with injuries despite the team opening training camp on Tuesday. He suffered a hamstring strain during the first day of practice and will miss at least one week. With Kyrie Irving (knee) and Dante Exum (undisclosed) unavailable, there may have been an opportunity for Williams to earn early-season rotation minutes. Unfortunately, the hamstring injury will keep him on the sideline for at least one week.
Daniel Gafford
Gafford (ankle) ruled out for training camp
Wed, Oct 1, 2025, 6:34 PM
Dallas Morning News
Daniel Gafford (ankle) will miss the remainder of Mavericks training camp.
Analysis: Gafford injured his ankle during Dallas' first practice of training camp on Tuesday. According to Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd, the 6-foot-10 center will miss the remainder of training camp and possibly the entire preseason. That timeline puts him at risk of not being available for Dallas' regular-season opener on October 22. Dereck Lively II's workload will increase if Gafford cannot return in time for the start of the regular season.
Anthony Davis
Davis to wear protective eyewear moving forward
Mon, Sep 29, 2025, 7:22 AM
Marc Stein
Anthony Davis said Monday that he will wear protective eyewear for the remainder of his career.
Analysis: Davis underwent surgery during the offseason to repair a detached retina that he played through last season. According to the Mavericks' forward/center, his doctors have mandated that he wear protective eyewear for the rest of his career. Whether or not that sticks remains to be seen, but this should not dissuade fantasy managers from selecting Davis in the first round of their drafts. Even with Kyrie Irving (knee) beginning the season on the sideline, AD stands to provide elite fantasy value when on the floor.
Jeremiah Robinson-Earl
Stein: Mavericks to sign Jeremiah Robinson-Earl
Sun, Sep 21, 2025, 1:17 PM
Marc Stein
NBA insider Marc Stein reports the Mavericks are signing F/C Jeremiah Robinson-Earl to a training camp deal.
Analysis: Robinson-Earl spent the last two seasons with the Pelicans, appearing in 66 games last season. In those outings, the former second-round pick averaged 6.3 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 18.8 minutes per game, shooting 45.5 percent from the field and 83.6 percent from the foul line. Robinson-Earl faces long odds of earning rotation minutes in Dallas this season if he makes the opening night roster.
Anthony Davis
Davis (eye) returned to 5-on-5 practice this week
Sat, Sep 20, 2025, 11:19 AM
NBA Insider Marc Stein reported Anthony Davis (eye) returned to practice this week.
Analysis: Stein's report indicates that AD participated in five-on-five, and it's believed to be his first live practice since undergoing the surgery in July. Davis certainly appears to be on pace to be available for training camp despite previous reports that it was unclear. Managers that are planning to select him in the first round of their drafts shouldn't have any concern about this eye ailment at this time.
Dennis Smith
Shams: Mavs, Dennis Smith Jr. agree to deal
Thu, Sep 18, 2025, 12:44 PM
ESPN
ESPN's Shams Charania reports the Mavericks have signed Dennis Smith Jr. to a one-year deal.
Analysis: Smith, the ninth overall pick in the 2017 draft, returns to the city where he began his NBA career. The athletic point guard last played in the NBA during the 2023-24 season, appearing in 56 games for the Nets. Last season, Smith played for Real Madrid. He is going into training camp hoping to earn a standard contract, potentially offering additional depth while the Mavericks await Kyrie Irving's return from a torn ACL. Brandon Williams is on a partially guaranteed deal and may have the most to worry about regarding his chances of making the opening night roster.
Anthony Davis
Anthony Davis (eye) still recovering from surgery
Thu, Sep 18, 2025, 8:24 AM
DLLS Mavs Podcast
NBA insider Marc Stein said on September 10 that Anthony Davis (eye) is recovering from offseason surgery to repair a detached retina.
Analysis: While Davis missed a significant amount of time last season due to a strained adductor, he was also playing through a detached retina that would require offseason surgery. And with Mavericks training camp scheduled to open on September 30, there's no guarantee that the team's prized power forward will be a full go. “Based on everything I've been told, he's not fully back on the court yet,” Stein said on September 10. “He can't be fully back on the court, yet. When practices start on September 30, will AD even be ready to practice at that point? We don't know that yet.” While Dallas won't begin its regular season until October 23, the prospect of potentially being without Davis when Kyrie Irving (knee) is already out has to be concerning. Davis can offer top-five fantasy value when healthy, but managers are taking a considerable risk in selecting him due to his injury history.
D'Angelo Russell
Russell: ‘I feel like I'm in my prime'
Sat, Sep 13, 2025, 9:18 AM
The Backyard Podcast
D'Angelo Russell said on his podcast, “I feel like I'm in my prime.”
Analysis: Russell, who signed with Dallas at the start of free agency, said he feels stronger, wiser and more careful. That'll work well for Dallas, since they'll need him to start at point guard for the first few months of the season until Kyrie Irving returns from the torn left ACL that he suffered in March. Russell should be productive for the Mavericks to open the year, but it's unlikely he actually has a career year, even if he feels like he's in his prime.
P.J. Washington
Shams: Mavs, PJ Washington agree to extension
Wed, Sep 3, 2025, 5:45 AM
ESPN
ESPN's Shams Charania reports the Mavericks and PJ Washington agreed to a four-year, $90 million extension.
Analysis: It had been reported recently that the two sides were highly interested in getting a deal done this offseason, so Wednesday's development is unsurprising. Washington was headed into the final season of his current deal, so the move solidifies his immediate future in Dallas as the Mavericks build around a core that now includes first overall pick Cooper Flagg. In his first full season with the team, Washington averaged 14.7 points, 7.8 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.1 steals, 1.1 blocks and 1.6 three-pointers per game. With the addition of Flagg, Washington will likely come off the bench, but he's still capable of offering solid fantasy value as a versatile frontcourt option.
Olivier-Maxence Prosper
Olivier-Maxence Prosper waived by Mavericks
Fri, Aug 29, 2025, 12:59 PM
Shams Charania
ESPN's Shams Charania reports that Olivier-Maxence Prosper has been waived by the Dallas Mavericks.
Analysis: The 2023 first-round pick was the subject of trade rumors leading up to Friday's roster move, so his departure isn't a complete shocker. After failing to carve out a consistent role with the Mavs in his two years as a pro, O-Max will look to do so with his next team.
Olivier-Maxence Prosper
Report: Mavs considering trades involving Prosper
Thu, Aug 28, 2025, 6:32 AM
Marc Stein
NBA insiders Marc Stein and Jake Fischer report that the Mavericks have resumed trade conversations to find a new home for Olivier-Maxence Prosper.
Analysis: Prosper, the 24th overall pick in the 2023 draft, has failed to carve out a consistent role in two seasons with the Mavericks. Also at play is Dallas' need to free up a standard contract slot to complete the re-signing of Dante Exum. The latter issue is more impactful regarding the Mavericks' reported desire to find a new home for Prosper. Guard Jaden Hardy was also mentioned as a player who may be on the move, but the Mavericks have limited draft assets to sweeten a trade for either of those young players. Another possibility for Dallas would be to use the waive-and-stretch provision on a player, but they only have until Friday at 5 pm Eastern to go that route per league rules.
Maxwell Lewis
Maxwell Lewis hits four three-pointers vs. ORL
Fri, Jul 18, 2025, 11:44 AM
Maxwell Lewis finished Friday's win over the Magic with 18 points (7-of-10 FGs), one rebound, one assist and four three-pointers.
Analysis: Unless the team is still competing for a championship, game five at the summer league in Las Vegas usually features players fighting for an opportunity somewhere. Lewis, who the Nets waived on June 27, certainly qualifies. The 2023 second-round pick had a good day shooting the basketball, making all four of his three-point attempts while leading four Mavericks in double figures with 18 points. Dallas has already filled two of its three two-way contract slots, and Lewis' performance against Orlando may keep him in the conversation for the third. At the very least, he may be able to earn an invitation to training camp.
